If you’re one of the many who loves to entertain, you know how hard it can be to match the right cheese to the perfect wine. Some people just have this talent and if you don’t, or if you don’t have time to use it, you don’t have to worry, becasue your wines and cheeses are all matched for you. At various times in my life I have been either an apartment dweller, or have lived in a 5 bedroom house, and have encountered a number of issues when it came to storing or chilling wine bottles.

With apartment living there seems a requirement to make sure everything fits into place just right, given that space can be tight, so a wine bottle refrigerator makes a lot of sense.

Many wine fridges sit on countertops or on an island unit as they in some cases might only hold 12 -16 wine bottles.

For those of you managing small guest apartments or B&B businesses, a classy looking wine fridge is more than a functional item, it adds to the experience of residing in your establishment.

The big bonus however is that they are generally silent in operation, unlike normal refrigerators that have a thermostat clicking in and out during the day and night - that is not what you want in a bedroom or rented guest room.

Many apartments utilize an open plan design with the kitchen, living and dining area as one big room, broken up by elements such as island cabinets or kitchen preparation countertops.

Where you have room dividers like kitchen benchtops or free standing cabinets you can use an undercounter wine cabinet with stainless steel doors and generally classy appearance that won’t look out of place in a living area.

And if you are residing in a huge house, generally its because you have a large family.

There is nothing worse than having your large family refrigerator stocked full of your wines with little space for day to day vegetables and food products.

That definitely is not a recipe for happy families!

Keeping your wine away from your main food refrigerator is a great idea in this situation, and I like to store it nearer to the entertainment area.

Plus it means I can secure the wine under lock and key if needed.

Visiting my wine shop is now less frequent as I normally secure some extra wine bottles for the fridge.

How you store your wine can make the difference between joyfully opening a perfectly scented, exquisite tasting wine to discovering unexpectedly that you now have a pungent vinegar. Wine connoisseurs are very careful with not only which types of wine they purchase but also how to store wine. Follow these simple tips so that your wine will always taste its' best and you don't have to find a second bottle of wine to replace the one that was damaged.

    Keep The Cork Moist

As you want to keep the cork of the wine moist, storing wine on its side prevents the cork from cracking and becoming damaged. Additionally, moderating humidity is important as it too cause a cork to dry up (or grow mildew).

    Avoid Strong Vibrations

Vibrations seem to break down wine. We recommend keeping your wine as stable as possible to maintain it at its best. When you store your wine in a wine rack it is less likely to be jostled.

    The Right Temperature

Wines like to be kept at a consistent temperature that isn't too hot or too cold. Ideally, wine should be stored between 5 to 18 degrees Celsius. A wine cellar is the most common solution to maintaining this constant environment. This makes certain the wine and the cork are at optimal temperatures.

    Light Can Damage Wine

To avoid having light change your wine unfovarably, storing it in darkness or in very low light is highly recommended. Fortunately, most bottles are currently made with ultraviolet filters to reduce the amount of light exposure. Too much light will cause the wine to have a repugnant aroma. Be careful to not store your wine by a window that allows direct sunlight to shine on your wine bottle.

Have Your Opened Wine Still Taste Wonderful

If you minimize the amount of air in your wine bottle, the wine that is stored will last longer. So if you drank half the bottle of wine, it is recommended to store it in a smaller bottle. If you wish you can also purchase wine saver which adds nitrogen to the bottle.

I have only worked at my current employers for about 6 months.

In this short space of time, i have managed to pick up an awful lot of experience within the computer world.

I will say that it did take a bit of getting used to when you have youngsters who are more than half your age explaining your work to you. However, you just have to go with the flow and grin and bear it. They well be upto date with the computer world, but I have plenty of knowledge about life and I could definitely tell them a thing or two. They probably look at me and think I’m an old dinosaur, well past my sell by date and really boring. However, I think they would be totally shocked by some of my past antics and would certainly view me in a different light if they knew half the things I had got up to!!

Where I work we are all very fortunate and our employers really do go out of their way to look after us.

We have a couple of computer consoles in our offices and usually at lunch time the lads participate in their daily Playstation or Xbox challenge and the office becomes a very riotous place, but it is all played in good spirit. We also have a full size pool table that is certainly very well used.

We have a brilliant staff incentive scheme. This is in place for all members of staff who go just that little bit further than they have to.

It’s a great scheme and members of staff can be nominated by their colleagues and then rewarded. So far I have managed to bag a great bottle of Spanish Wine and a fantastic bottle of French Wine.

Others have had tins of chocolates, beauty products, gift vouchers and so the list continues.

A nice bottle of Italian Wine has just been added to the collection of goodies so I might just have to work a little bit harder to see if I can get nominated!!

Right now I am off to make tea for the gang and earn myself a few bonus points.
